BMW Z4 M Coupe 2009


The weight of the Z4M Coupè is 1,495 kg, 100 kg more than the 3.0si, and 5 kg more than the Z4M roadster. The engine is the famous 6-inline from the M3, with a capacity of 3.2 liters, 343 hp at 7,900 rpm and 365 Nm of torque at 4.900 rpm.

Having seen the BMW Z4 Coupe in person during the Hall of Frankfurt last year, we know firsthand that the photographs do not do justice to the design of the convertible. Thus, we offer you this video (here) of the new BMW Z4 M Coupe to illustrate a little better design of the latest BMW sports. It remains two-dimensional, but at least they can observe devouring the track from all angles.

Thanks to this awesome engine, the Z4M Coupè accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5 seconds flat, while top speed is electronically governed at 250 km/h (there’s talk of 300 km/h without the limiter). Tires are 225/45 ZR18 at the front and 255/40 ZR18 at the back, on classic “M” rims.

The underbody is extremely riggid, with a resistence to torsion of 32,000 Nm/degree), while the braking system comes straight from the M3 CSL. The result is a car that goes round the Nurburgring Nordschliefe faster than her Roadster sibling and, surprisingly, faster even than the M3 E46. BMW wasn't planning on releasing the M3 convertible just yet. It had its hands full with the production X6 crossover and those new-fangled turbodiesels the company unveiled at the Detroit show. The M3 drop-top wasn't supposed to debut until March at the Geneva show. But the Bavarian automaker evidently took a decidedly un-German "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" attitude when initial images and details leaked out. Rather than trying to hold the dam together, BMW has decided to join us for a swim and let the floodgates open on its new V8 hard-top convertible.

The M Coupe is the most testosterone laced, (dare I say it) manly modern car I’ve ever driven. Upon entering the cabin you realize that this car is focused on one thing - driving and driver enjoyment. You sit relative low in the seats with the center tunnel higher than what is found in cars like the M3. The cabin fit my 6′2″ frame like a well formed glove, my hands falling at the controls as if the car silently confirgured itself around me.

Fans of the new BMW Z4 Coupe are lucky, the first BMW Z4 Coupe and BMW M Coupe left the production lines of the BMW plant in Spartanburg, USA, on Tuesday, just in time for summer sales in Europe. The BMW Z4 Coupe comes with a 3.0 six-cylinder engine and 265 horses, while the more powerful M receives a 3.2 (also six-cylinder engine) that generates no less than 343 foals.

The front-end will likely feature a more upright kidney grille in order to comply with stronger pedestrian protection laws, while the headlights won’t be stretched out like on the current model. BMW’s characteristic interaction between convex and concave shapes will still be emphasized, and will be clearly indicated in the engine hood’s lines.

These are the latest attempts by talented graphic artists at predicting how the 2010 BMW 5-series will look like. The next generation BMW 5-series is expected to be codenamed the F10, one of the first of new BMWs to adopt the F-code for chassis, abandoning the current E-code. This very detailed rendering hints of a larger and fatter 5-series, and the headlamps used are similiar to the one on the Coupe, much sexier than AutoBild’s 3-series headlamps on their rendering of the F10.

The current 5 Series has been around since 2004, so to keep things fresh, BMW is giving its mid-level offering a quick refresh.

Most notable are the mechanical changes, with six-cylinder engine options being brought in line with the 3 Series, including the addition of the 300 horsepower twin-turbo variant. Thus, the new 5 Series lineup consists of the 528, the 535, and the 550. Additionally, an all-wheel drive version of the 535 will be offered in both sedan and wagon form, something not available on the 3 Series. The V-8 powered 550i remains unchanged. No longer offered is the SMG, while the automatic transmission receives upgraded programming and becomes a no-cost option.

The tuners and tunettes at AC Schnitzer have turned their wrenches toward the 2009 BMW X6, BMW's unique Sports Activity Coupe. When we reviewed the Bimmer, making it look stranger with visual tweaks wasn't high on the list of things we were hoping someone would change. That didn't seem to deter AC Schnitzer, who added a new nose with a lower skirt, along with repositioned intakes and a revised rear diffuser. Lest you think it's all weird show and no go, the company is also tweaking the diesel engines with a new motor control unit, resulting in an unknown amount of horsepower through the Schnitzer's dual-flow exhaust system.

BMW X6 Sports 2008

Right now X6’s design is subject to a lot of controversy like all the Bimmers designed by Chris Bangle. People complaining about the X6 are more than the ones who like it and I’m among the minority. X6 has been executed beautifully inheriting a lot of design features from the X5 but in the looks department way better than the other X-cars (especially the X3 IMO which is uglier than the ugliest of the lot).

Viewed from its roof construction, the new 1-series Cabrio is a classic softy. But under its soft shell lurks a hard masculine cornering machine which isn't pushed aside by anyone: especially in the AC Schnitzer version. As honed as a high performance athlete, the car cuts a fine figure even in the car park. The Aachen-based BMW-tuners have transplanted the muscles visually to the right places. In the end, the vehicle is an agile sprinter and not a bodybuilder who can scarcely move for power. At first glance, the new front skirt strikes you - it is less rounded than standard and runs into a slight taper.

This, in combination with the diagonal grille insert, ensures a far more dynamic appearance. And naturally the Cabriolet not only has a neat front, but also a strong rear: The AC Schnitzer rear skirt lip or insert (for M-Technik version) provides an extra cross contour in comparison with the original, and hence a more "powerful" look. Underneath, a diffuser element highlights the sporting heritage of the vehicle.

BMW M3 ALMS 2009 Car Race


BMW presented the racing version of the new BMW M3 at the Chicago Auto Show. Powered by a 485 bhp eight cylinder engine, this impressive race car has been designed to compete in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) beginning in 2009. The car is based on the fourth generation of the BMW M3, the high-performance sports car produced by BMW M GmbH. Those engine blocks, cast in BMW's light alloy foundry in Landshut - the very source of BMW's Formula One castings - selected for race duty need to withstand even more power: the BMW P65 race engine delivers 485 bhp. The race version of the BMW M3 is wider and significantly lighter than its production equivalent, enabling it to perfectly transmit the power of its V8 to the track. Widespread use of carbon-reinforced plastic (CRP) provides proof of substantial weight reduction. As with the production version, the race car's roof is manufactured from this high-tech material.
BMW has released footage of the all new racing version of the M3 Coupe completing its maiden drive on the race track. The race prepped BMW M3 that was first shown to the public at this year’s Chicago Auto Show has been designed to compete in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) beginning in 2009. Wider and significantly lighter than its production equivalent, the M3 ALMS is powered by a modified version the M3’s 4.0-liter V8 engine delivering 485 HP.

They gave me a 2008 Volvo C30 to drive. I actually asked for it because I like to drive something different when I can. They always try to put you in a model either the same as the one you own or higher, but I wanted to see what the C30 was all about.

From the outside the C30 looks like a Volvo, and has the very distinctive Volvo lines. It’s nose is Volvo, and it has the Volvo hips on it that make it look very Volvo. I like the Volvo body style so the outside is a winner for me. It looks very exciting and very Volvo. The front bumper is very sporty looking and has an aggressive look to it. The rear is a bit odd but it works as a hatch back. I would have liked to have more room to slide in wider objects but over all it’s good.

The name certainly does not fall the language, but Subaru B5-TPH is soft to indicate because of the fact that these letters represent - hybrid parallel of Turbo. The gear box of TPH is composed of an electrical motor 10kW sandwhiched between the transmission and the engine turbocharged of boxer. The Civic Si sedan is 2 inches longer than the coupe and weighs 60 pounds more, but it has the same high-performance personality and even makes the same numbers at the test track. It just happens to have four doors. This is great news.

Honda Civic Si Concept

The prototype is expected to finish development and be released in Spring 2007, in the Japanese market. The Honda Civic Type R sedan will have a specially tuned sport suspension and will feature the legendary K20 i-VTEC high-revving engine, over 220PS.

Honda FCX Concept 2008

During the Honda media trip to Japan for the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, we also got to visit Honda’s Tochigi R&D Center where we got to see all kinds of interesting and embargoed things, heheh. But one of the experiences we had at Tochigi that I am allowed to write about at this time is my driving experience with both the current generation 3-door Honda FCX and the new Honda FCX Concept.

The new FCX sedan has a top speed of 100 miles an hour and can travel as far as 270 miles when fully fueled, 30 percent farther than the previous FCX. The fuel-cell stack is 40 percent smaller than in the previous version and increases the electrical output to 100 kilowatts from 86 kilowatts, said Yozo Kami, executive chief engineer for Tokyo-based Honda's FCX program.
